Cuckoos 2-0 Wellingborough Town

Two our of form sides met in front of a sparse Leading Drove crowd in this UCL encounter last night.

The home side coming out on top with goals from Sam Makansi and Dan Fountain in the second half. It was the Cuckoos first league win in 12 and Wellingborough’s 6th successive 0 pointer.

As the season draws to a close, Cuckoos fans will be looking towards a nice summer break and re-grouping for the next campaign.

I thought your report on this game fenlandclarioncc was a bit low key, if you don’t mind me saying so.

Statistics do not lie, and the players were well aware that we have not won in the league since January 19th, but the lads were fantastic again last night (as they have been for the last 4 games). We have been gaining confidence in each game and thought we deserved the win last night with a stunning second half display last night (probably best 45 mins of the season), with yet again a welcome clean sheet (270 mins without conceeding.

The pleasing thing is that the players are very aware and conscious that there is still plenty of room for improvement in many aspects of our game, and are not getting carried away with a decent string of results against good sides.

Apart from the result and clean sheet yet again the youngsters shone through with Sam Makansi(17) and Dan Fountain (19) amongst the goals, with Dan having a real impact on the game especially in the second half.

Let’s hope we can keep consistent now through to the end of the season, and then as you say re-group and build for next season, and add to the squad further.

One thing for sure is that I am committed to the cause as managing this club, despite rumours circulating around the area that I am leaving the club.
