The side from the new town up the A15 are managed by former Cuckoos head Paul Humphries so there was plenty of incentive to cause an upset.
‘Strat’ opened the scoring early on before highly rated youngster Sam Makansi brought the higher level opponents level with time running out.
Ricky Hailstone put the visitors in front in extra time but Hampton were level a minute later.
Yaxley legend Hailstone won the tie in the last minute of extra time setting up a May bank holiday Monday final with St Ives, a tall order.
But the Cuckoos are still in with a shout of silverware and that is great news. A tricky tie has been won and all should be happy with that.
