YAXLEY boss Gary Clipston has issued a challenge to Bourne ahead of the clubs’ big United Counties League Premier Division derby battle tomorrow.
The two local sides, who have both powered away from the danger zone in the past few weeks, meet at the Abbey Lawns.
Hosts Bourne have won four in a row on their own turf during Glenn Notley’s most productive spell while Yaxley are unbeaten in three games after discovering some defensive resolve of late.
And Yaxley head to Lincolnshire with revenge on their minds. They were humiliated 4-1 by the Wakes in the reverse fixture at Leading Drove early in the season.
They later got their own back with a 6-2 FA Vase win at Bourne but it is picking up points tomorrow that will really settle the score.
Clipston said: “I gave Glenn a text in the week to congratulate him on Bourne’s good form - I just hope it comes to an end tomorrow.
“We want to put right the result at the beginning of the season, but it is a game neither side can really afford to lose.
“Our new approach of going out not to lose has really worked well in recent weeks and the challenge is there for Bourne to break us down.”
Clipston has credited his assistant boss Hamish Curtis for Yaxley’s recent revival.
He added: “Hamish has made a big difference since he started playing a few weeks ago. He is a class act at left back and offers a lot both defensively and at set pieces at the other end.
